Clay balances humidity, absorbs odours and creates a healthy indoor climate – without chemicals. On La Gomera, clay plaster is the natural answer to sea air and subtropical humidity.
Clay is one of the oldest building materials known. What our ancestors knew intuitively, building biology confirms today: clay plaster buffers indoor humidity naturally, absorbs odours and creates a room climate you can feel.
On La Gomera, where sea air and subtropical humidity put building materials to the test, clay plays to its strengths. It takes up excess moisture, releases it slowly and so reduces condensation on wall surfaces – a common cause of mould near the coast.
“Clay plaster” covers a whole system. A durable, beautiful wall depends on the right build-up – from the substrate to the visible finish. We plan the build-up with you and apply it ourselves.
We work all over La Gomera and, on request, on Tenerife and the other Canary Islands. Holiday apartment, finca or owner-occupied flat: clay plaster suits a complete refurbishment as well as the redesign of a single room.
Yes. Clay takes up moisture from the indoor air and releases it again, which evens out the humidity peaks that are common near the coast. The wall must be dry: we identify and fix rising or penetrating damp first.
Yes – outside the direct splash zone. Shower and bath surrounds get Tadelakt, lime plaster or tiles; the remaining walls can be finished in clay and improve the room climate.
Masonry, concrete, plasterboard and sound existing plaster. We check the substrate and prepare it with primer, reinforcement mesh or a clay base coat as needed.
Yes, clay and wall heating work very well together. A water-based wall heating system under clay plaster can also cool in summer and then works much like air conditioning – without draughts or noise. We prepare an individual quote.
Clay base and fine plaster form the build-up of the wall. A clay design plaster such as YOSIMA is the thin, coloured top layer – with natural earth colours and a velvety matt finish.
